Growing Influence of the Indian Community in US politics

July 1st, 2007 by Jitendra · No Comments

This piece in FT by Ed Luce, highlights the growing influence of the Indian community in the US political landscape:

Influential Indians lend weight and wealth to Clinton cause

Indian-Americans for Hillary - a group that supports Mrs Clinton’s 2008 campaign - will host a fundraising event in New York on Sunday that could net the former first lady between $500,000 and $1m. Among other wealthy Indians, Lakshmi Mittal, the London-based steel magnate, is expected to attend.
With all the presidential candidates scrambling to meet their second quarter fundraising targets by the end of this month, Mrs Clinton’s ties with the increasingly wealthy 2.3m-strong Indian-American community could prove very helpful.

Hillary Clinton, Jeff Immelt, Arun Sarin to keynote at IIT 07

April 22nd, 2007 by Jitendra · 3 Comments

Great piece from MoneyControl about IIT 2007

Jeff Hillary Arun

A set of luminaries Senator Hillary Clinton, Jeff Immelt (CEO, GE) & Arun Sarin (CEO, Vodafone) will be keynote speakers at the IIT 2007 Global alumni conference, to be held in San Clara (Bay Area, California) on July 6-8, 2007. Over 4000 attendees are expected to attend the conference that is being organized by PanIITInc. Conference chair Sanjiv Sahay said, “The theme of the 2007 conference is Transforming the World through Technology”.

Sanjiv added, “It will showcase the impact of the IITs and its alumni in driving innovation, creating new enterprises, and enabling social transformation in both India and the US”.

Some of the finest brains including Nobel Laureate Arno Allan Penzias (1978 Nobel Prize in physics), CMU President Jared L. Cohon, McKinsey’s Rajat Gupta, Keynote CEO Umang Gupta, leading VC Vinod Khosla, Headstrong CEO Arjun Malhotra, entrepreneur and philanthropist Kanwal Rekhi, iGATE’s Sunil Wadhwani and other luminaries from around the world will look hard at the future, explore the frontiers of new thought and technology, and identify the next big forces and trends that will sweep across the world. In addition, the conference will provide an opportunity to discuss the cutting edge technology issues like Clean Technology and Web 2.0.

So let me just repeat it for emphasis…be there or be square :-)
